The September Wellness Reset: 7 Gentle Ways to Feel Better This Fall

September has always felt a little like a second January to me.

Summer is winding down. The year is moving faster than we expected. The holidays aren't far away, and suddenly we're looking at the goals we made months ago and wondering, Where did the time go?

But here's what I don't want us to do.

I don't want September to become another month when we decide we need to completely overhaul our lives.

No extreme diets.

No punishing workouts.

No 5 a.m. routines simply because somebody on social media told us that's what successful women do.

Instead, what if September became our month to gently come back to ourselves?

For women over 50, wellness doesn't have to mean doing more. Sometimes it means becoming more intentional about what helps us feel strong, rested, nourished, peaceful, and connected to our lives.

Here are seven ways I'm approaching my September wellness reset.

1. Start With Your Morning, Not Your Entire Life

You don't need a three-hour morning routine.

Start with 10 or 15 intentional minutes.

Before immediately checking email or scrolling social media, give yourself a little space to wake up.

Open the blinds.

Drink some water.

Stretch.

Pray or meditate.

Write down something you're grateful for.

Enjoy your coffee without multitasking.

A peaceful morning won't guarantee a peaceful day, but it can change how you enter it.

Taylor-Made Tip: Choose three things you can realistically do most mornings. That's your routine.

2. Walk More—Without Making It Complicated

Walking may be one of the simplest ways to add more movement to our days.

And it counts.

A 10-minute walk counts.

Walking through the mall counts.

Taking the long way through the grocery store counts.

Walking while you're talking to a girlfriend on the phone counts.

You don't have to turn every walk into a workout.

Try adding small pockets of movement throughout your day and gradually build from there.

If you're starting a new exercise routine or managing a health condition, talk with your healthcare professional about what type and amount of activity are appropriate for you.

3. Add Strength to Your Week

As we get older, maintaining our strength becomes increasingly important.

That doesn't mean you have to become a bodybuilder.

Strength work can include resistance bands, light weights, machines at the gym, Pilates, body-weight exercises, or other forms of resistance training that are appropriate for your ability.

Start where you are.

If you're new to strength training, consider getting guidance on proper form rather than trying to follow an advanced workout you found online.

We're not competing with anybody.

We're building bodies that support the lives we want to live.

4. Make Sleep Part of Your Wellness Routine

We talk about workouts, supplements, skincare, smoothies, and meal plans.

But sometimes the most luxurious wellness practice is simply going to bed.

Create a little evening ritual.

Dim the lights.

Put the phone away earlier.

Take a warm shower.

Do your nighttime skincare.

Stretch.

Read.

Journal.

Turn your bedroom into a place that tells your body, We're done for today.

You don't have to earn rest.

Rest is part of taking care of yourself.

5. Eat to Nourish Yourself, Not Punish Yourself

September can bring that familiar pressure to “get back on track.”

But I want to challenge the idea that we're either on or off track.

One meal doesn't determine our health.

Neither does one weekend, one vacation, or one dessert.

Instead, think about what you can add.

Can you add another vegetable today?

More water?

A satisfying source of protein?

Some fruit?

A nourishing breakfast?

A home-cooked meal?

Healthy living becomes much more sustainable when we're thinking about nourishment instead of punishment.

6. Protect Your Peace

Wellness isn't only about what we're eating or how many steps we've taken.

Our emotional well-being matters too.

And sometimes protecting our peace means recognizing what is constantly draining it.

Maybe it's saying no without writing a three-paragraph explanation.

Maybe it's limiting how much news or social media you consume.

Maybe it's creating boundaries around your time.

Maybe it's spending less time around people who leave you emotionally exhausted.

And sometimes it's simply giving yourself permission to have a quiet Saturday with absolutely nothing impressive to report.

Every available space on your calendar doesn't have to be filled.

7. Put Some Joy Back on the Calendar

This one might be the most important.

When did wellness become another job?

We're so focused on drinking the water, getting the steps, eating the vegetables, taking the vitamins, making the appointments and checking the boxes that sometimes we forget:

We're supposed to be enjoying our lives too.

So put something on your September calendar simply because it sounds fun.

Meet your girlfriends for brunch.

Visit a museum.

Take yourself to coffee.

Go somewhere you've never been.

Buy yourself flowers.

Turn on your favorite music and dance around the house.

Wear the outfit you've been saving.

Take a day trip.

Try a new class.

Joy belongs in our wellness plan too.

Your Wellness Doesn't Have to Look Like Anyone Else's

This season of life has taught me that wellness is personal.

What works for one woman may not work for another.

Our bodies are different.

Our schedules are different.

Our health needs are different.

Our energy levels are different.

And that's okay.

The goal isn't to create the “perfect” wellness routine.

The goal is to create a life that supports you.

The September Wellness Check-In

Before September gets away from you, ask yourself:

How am I feeling physically?

How am I sleeping?

Am I moving my body regularly?

What has been draining my energy lately?

What has been bringing me joy?

Is there an appointment I've been putting off?

What does my body need more of right now?

What do I need less of?

You don't have to solve everything today.

Just pay attention to the answers.

Sometimes our bodies and our lives have been telling us what they need—we've simply been too busy to listen.

Let's Make September About Coming Back to Ourselves

We still have several months left in this year.

That's plenty of time to make changes.

Plenty of time to begin again.

Plenty of time to take better care of ourselves.

And plenty of time to enjoy the life we're creating.

So this September, I'm not asking you to reinvent your entire life.

Choose one thing.

Take the walk.

Schedule the appointment.

Drink the water.

Go to bed earlier.

Set the boundary.

Call your girlfriend.

Book the class.

Rest.

Begin there.

Because wellness after 50 isn't about becoming a completely different woman.

It's about taking good care of the woman you've worked so hard to become.

The Taylor Made September Wellness Checklist

Your September reminder: You don't have to do everything. Just do the next loving thing for yourself.

August Wellness Reset: 10 Gentle Ways to Feel Your Best After 50

August isn't about chasing perfection—it's about creating small habits that help you finish summer feeling stronger, healthier, and more at peace.

There's something unique about August.

The excitement of summer begins to settle. Vacations are winding down. Families are preparing for a new school year. Schedules begin filling back up, and before we know it, the holidays will be knocking at our door.

For women over 50, August offers something even more valuable: a chance to pause before life speeds up again.

This isn't the month to overhaul your life overnight.

It's the month to gently reset.

As I've gotten older, I've realized wellness isn't measured by the number on a scale or how many hours you spend in the gym. It's about creating a lifestyle that supports your mind, body, and spirit every single day.

If you've fallen out of your routine this summer, you're not behind.

You're simply ready for a fresh start.

Here are ten simple ways to make August your healthiest month yet.

1. Stay Ahead of the Heat

Summer temperatures can be especially challenging after 50.

Hormonal changes, medications, and chronic health conditions can make us more sensitive to dehydration and heat exhaustion.

Instead of waiting until you're thirsty, make hydration part of your daily routine.

Try adding fresh lemon, cucumber, mint, berries, or watermelon to your water for a refreshing twist. Herbal iced teas are another delicious way to stay hydrated throughout the day.

Think of your water bottle as one of your most important wellness accessories this month.

2. Fill Your Plate with August Produce

Late summer offers some of the most colorful fruits and vegetables of the year.

Choose foods like:

  • Tomatoes

  • Peaches

  • Watermelon

  • Cucumbers

  • Bell peppers

  • Zucchini

  • Okra

  • Berries

  • Corn

  • Leafy greens

These foods provide vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber that support heart health, healthy aging, glowing skin, and steady energy.

Aim to add at least one colorful fruit or vegetable to every meal.

3. Move Your Body—Without Punishing It

Exercise after 50 should leave you feeling energized, not exhausted.

Instead of focusing on intensity, focus on consistency.

Take an early morning walk before the Texas heat arrives.

Try gentle yoga.

Go swimming.

Dance in your living room.

Stretch while watching your favorite TV show.

Every bit of movement counts.

The goal isn't perfection.

The goal is longevity.

4. Give Your Skin Extra Love

Summer sun, heat, and air conditioning can leave mature skin feeling dry and tired.

August is the perfect time to simplify your skincare routine.

Remember to:

  • Wear sunscreen daily.

  • Moisturize morning and evening.

  • Drink plenty of water.

  • Eat antioxidant-rich foods.

  • Wear sunglasses and wide-brim hats when outdoors.

Healthy skin starts from the inside out.

5. Prioritize Rest

Many women wear exhaustion like a badge of honor.

But your body deserves rest.

This month, ask yourself:

  • Am I getting enough sleep?

  • Do I allow myself quiet moments?

  • When was the last time I truly relaxed?

Rest is productive.

It helps regulate hormones, supports heart health, improves mood, and restores energy.

6. Check In With Your Health

August is a wonderful reminder to schedule appointments before the busy fall season.

Consider making time for:

  • Annual physicals

  • Mammograms

  • Eye exams

  • Dental cleanings

  • Blood pressure checks

  • Cholesterol screenings

  • Diabetes screenings

  • Bone health discussions

Preventive care is one of the greatest investments you can make in yourself.

7. Nourish Your Mental Wellness

Wellness is about more than eating healthy.

It's also about protecting your peace.

Create space this month to:

  • Journal

  • Pray or meditate

  • Read a good book

  • Spend time in nature

  • Call a friend

  • Practice gratitude

Your emotional health deserves just as much attention as your physical health.

8. Declutter One Small Space

Sometimes a cluttered home creates a cluttered mind.

Choose one small area each week.

  • Maybe it's your purse.
  • Your pantry.
  • A bathroom drawer.
  • Your nightstand.

Small wins create momentum and help your home feel more peaceful.

9. Rediscover Joy

One of the greatest gifts of getting older is realizing that joy doesn't have to be earned.

This month, do something simply because it makes you smile.

  • Visit a museum.
  • Try a new coffee shop.
  • Start a puzzle.
  • Plant flowers.
  • Watch the sunrise.
  • Take yourself to lunch.
  • Wear the dress that's been hanging in your closet.

Joy is good for your health.

10. Prepare for a Healthy Fall

Instead of waiting until January to make wellness goals, start now.

Think about the habits you'd like to carry into September and beyond.

Maybe that's:

  • Meal planning every Sunday

  • Walking three days a week

  • Drinking more water

  • Cooking at home more often

  • Spending less time on social media

  • Reading before bed instead of scrolling

Small habits practiced consistently create lasting change.

Your August Wellness Challenge

This month, I encourage you to choose just three healthy habits to focus on.

  • Not ten.
  • Not twenty.
  • Just three.

When we try to change everything at once, we often change nothing at all.

Small, intentional choices repeated every day become the foundation of a vibrant life.

Final Thoughts

Ladies, aging isn't something we have to fear.

It's something we get to embrace.

  • Every gray hair tells a story.
  • Every laugh line represents joy.
  • Every year is another opportunity to become healthier, wiser, and more confident.

August is your invitation to slow down, care for yourself, and remember that wellness isn't about being perfect.

It's about showing up for yourself one healthy choice at a time.

  • So fill your water bottle.
  • Take that morning walk.
  • Eat the fresh peaches.
  • Schedule the appointment.
  • Wear the sunscreen.
  • Protect your peace.

Because the healthiest, happiest version of you is still unfolding—and she deserves every bit of the care you're so willing to give everyone else.

I'd love to hear from you. What's one wellness habit you're committing to this August? Share it in the comments so we can encourage one another.

July Wellness Reset: Protect Your Peace, Nourish Your Body & Embrace Your Glow After 50

There is something special about July.

The days are longer, the sunshine feels a little warmer, and life seems to invite us outdoors. It's the perfect time to slow down, check in with ourselves, and remember that wellness isn't about perfection—it's about consistently choosing ourselves.

As African American women over 50, we've spent decades caring for everyone else. We've shown up for our families, careers, churches, communities, and friends. But this season of life reminds us that taking care of ourselves isn't selfish—it's necessary.

This July, let's make wellness feel simple, joyful, and sustainable.

1. Start Your Morning Before the World Needs You

Instead of immediately reaching for your phone, spend just 10 to 15 minutes reconnecting with yourself.

Try creating a simple morning ritual:

  • Thank God for another day.

  • Drink a full glass of water.

  • Stretch your body.

  • Step outside for fresh air.

  • Write down three things you're grateful for.

Those few quiet moments can completely change the tone of your day.

2. Stay Hydrated Like It's Self-Care

Summer heat can quietly lead to dehydration, which often shows up as fatigue, headaches, dry skin, and brain fog.

Make hydration enjoyable by adding:

  • Lemon slices

  • Cucumber

  • Fresh mint

  • Strawberries

  • Watermelon

Keep a reusable water bottle nearby as a reminder that every sip is an act of self-love.

3. Move Because You Love Your Body—Not Because You Hate It

Fitness after 50 doesn't have to mean punishing workouts.

Movement can look like:

  • Morning walks

  • Dancing in your living room

  • Water aerobics

  • Gentle yoga

  • Stretching while watching television

  • Strength training with light weights

The goal isn't to become smaller.

The goal is to become stronger, healthier, and more energized.

4. Feed Your Body Foods That Love You Back

July is filled with colorful produce that's both delicious and nourishing.

Fill your plate with:

  • Watermelon

  • Berries

  • Tomatoes

  • Leafy greens

  • Cucumbers

  • Bell peppers

  • Avocados

  • Grilled vegetables

  • Lean proteins

  • Whole grains

Remember, healthy eating doesn't mean giving up everything you enjoy. It means adding more foods that help you feel your best.

5. Protect Your Peace

Not everything deserves your energy.

This month, give yourself permission to:

  • Say "no" without guilt.

  • Take breaks.

  • Mute negativity.

  • Rest when you're tired.

  • Spend time with people who pour into you.

Peace is one of the healthiest choices you can make.

6. Take Care of Your Beautiful Melanin

Our skin deserves extra love during the summer months.

Don't forget to:

  • Wear sunscreen every day.

  • Moisturize morning and night.

  • Wear a wide-brim hat when outdoors.

  • Drink plenty of water.

  • Eat antioxidant-rich foods.

Healthy skin starts from the inside out.

7. Celebrate Every Win

Sometimes we wait until we've reached a huge goal before celebrating ourselves.

This July, celebrate the little victories.

Celebrate:

  • Drinking more water

  • Going for a walk

  • Choosing rest

  • Keeping your doctor's appointment

  • Cooking at home

  • Getting enough sleep

  • Setting healthy boundaries

Small habits create lasting transformation.

July Wellness Challenge

I challenge you to choose one healthy habit and practice it every day this month.

It could be:

✓ Walk for 20 minutes.

✓ Drink eight glasses of water.

✓ Stretch every morning.

✓ Read something inspirational.

✓ Spend five minutes in prayer or meditation.

✓ Eat one extra serving of vegetables.

Progress—not perfection—is what creates lasting wellness.

Final Thoughts

Sis, your wellness journey doesn't have to look like anyone else's.

Your body has carried you through decades of life, love, victories, heartbreaks, and countless responsibilities. It deserves kindness, patience, nourishment, and care.

This July, choose joy.

Choose rest.

Choose movement.

Choose healthy meals.

Choose laughter.

Choose peace.

Most importantly, choose yourself.

Because the healthiest version of you isn't the youngest version of you—it's the version that honors herself every single day.

Here's to a July filled with vibrant health, renewed energy, and living beautifully on your own terms.

With love,

Summer Wellness Tips for Women Over 50: Thrive, Flourish, and Feel Your Best This Season

Summer is a season of sunshine, fresh beginnings, and opportunities to reconnect with yourself. For women over 50, it's the perfect time to embrace healthy habits that support energy, vitality, and overall well-being.

As we navigate menopause, changing hormones, blood pressure concerns, blood sugar management, and the natural aging process, taking care of ourselves becomes even more important. The good news is that small, intentional choices can have a powerful impact on how we feel throughout the summer months.

Here are some simple yet effective summer wellness tips to help you thrive all season long.

1. Stay Hydrated Throughout the Day

One of the easiest ways to support your health during the summer is to drink plenty of water.

As temperatures rise, our bodies lose more fluids through perspiration. Dehydration can contribute to fatigue, headaches, dizziness, and dry skin.

Try these hydration tips:

  • Carry a reusable water bottle everywhere.
  • Add lemon, cucumber, mint, or berries for flavor.
  • Drink water before you feel thirsty.
  • Include water-rich foods like watermelon, cucumbers, celery, and strawberries.

Aim to sip consistently throughout the day rather than trying to drink large amounts at once.

2. Protect Your Skin from the Sun

Healthy skin is beautiful skin at every age.

Daily sun protection helps prevent premature aging, dark spots, and skin damage.

Summer skincare essentials include:

  • Broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher
  • Wide-brimmed hats
  • UV-protective sunglasses
  • Lightweight, breathable clothing

Don't forget areas often overlooked, including your neck, chest, ears, and hands.

3. Prioritize Gentle Movement

Exercise doesn't have to be intense to be effective.

Low-impact activities can improve heart health, mobility, balance, and mood while being gentle on joints.

Great summer movement options include:

  • Morning walks
  • Water aerobics
  • Swimming
  • Yoga
  • Stretching routines
  • Dance workouts
  • Strength training with light weights

Moving your body consistently can help support healthy blood sugar levels, improve circulation, and boost energy.

4. Eat Seasonal Foods

Summer offers an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables that support overall wellness.

Choose colorful produce rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber.

Summer favorites include:

  • Berries
  • Tomatoes
  • Leafy greens
  • Bell peppers
  • Cucumbers
  • Zucchini
  • Peaches
  • Watermelon

Focus on meals that include lean protein, healthy fats, and plenty of vegetables to help stabilize blood sugar and keep you satisfied longer.

5. Don't Skip Your Rest Days

Many women are accustomed to caring for everyone else first.

This summer, give yourself permission to rest.

Rest is not laziness—it's an essential part of wellness.

Consider:

  • Afternoon quiet time
  • Reading a favorite book
  • Taking a relaxing bath
  • Practicing meditation
  • Spending time in nature
  • Enjoying a leisurely morning routine

Rest helps reduce stress hormones and supports emotional well-being.

6. Manage Stress Intentionally

Chronic stress can impact everything from sleep and digestion to blood pressure and weight management.

Healthy stress-reducing practices include:

  • Prayer
  • Gratitude journaling
  • Deep breathing exercises
  • Listening to uplifting music
  • Connecting with supportive friends
  • Spending time outdoors

Even five to ten minutes of intentional self-care each day can make a difference.

7. Get Quality Sleep

Sleep is one of the most powerful wellness tools available.

During sleep, the body repairs tissues, balances hormones, and restores energy.

To improve sleep quality:

  • Maintain a consistent bedtime.
  • Limit caffeine late in the day.
  • Keep your bedroom cool and dark.
  • Reduce screen time before bed.
  • Develop a relaxing evening routine.

Aim for seven to nine hours of sleep whenever possible.

8. Nourish Your Mental and Emotional Health

True wellness goes beyond physical health.

Summer is a wonderful time to prioritize joy and connection.

Ideas include:

  • Visiting a museum
  • Taking a local day trip
  • Starting a new hobby
  • Joining a book club
  • Spending time with family
  • Attending community events
  • Volunteering for a cause you care about

Experiences that bring joy can positively impact overall health and longevity.

9. Schedule Preventive Health Checkups

Summer can be a great time to catch up on important health appointments.

Consider scheduling:

  • Annual physical exams
  • Mammograms
  • Eye exams
  • Dental cleanings
  • Blood pressure screenings
  • Blood sugar monitoring appointments

Preventive care allows you to stay informed and proactive about your health.

10. Create a Summer Wellness Ritual

Rather than focusing on perfection, focus on consistency.

Develop a simple daily routine that supports your well-being.

Your wellness ritual might include:

  • Morning prayer or meditation
  • Drinking water upon waking
  • A nutritious breakfast
  • Daily movement
  • Healthy meals
  • Evening gratitude journaling
  • Consistent sleep habits

Small daily habits often create the greatest long-term results.

Final Thoughts

Summer is an invitation to slow down, nourish yourself, and embrace healthy habits that help you feel vibrant and energized. Wellness after 50 isn't about achieving perfection—it's about creating a lifestyle that supports your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

This season, choose habits that help you feel strong, confident, and joyful. Prioritize hydration, movement, nutrition, rest, and self-care. Most importantly, remember that taking care of yourself is not selfish—it's one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.

Here's to a summer filled with wellness, purpose, and vibrant living.

Reset Your Mind for Spring

There’s something special about spring…

It doesn’t rush in loudly—it arrives gently.

Longer days. Softer light. Fresh air.
And just like nature begins again, so can we.

But here’s the truth…
Before we declutter our homes or refresh our wardrobes,
we have to reset our minds first.

Because how we think shapes how we live.

Spring Is Your Permission to Begin Again

You don’t need January 1st to start over.

Spring whispers:
“You can release that now.”

The stress.
The overthinking.
The heaviness you’ve been carrying.

This is your season to:

  • Let go of what no longer serves you
  • Quiet the noise
  • Reconnect with yourself

Not in a dramatic way…
But in a gentle, intentional one.

Clear the Mental Clutter

We talk a lot about cleaning our homes, but what about our thoughts?

Mental clutter can look like:

  • Worrying about things you can’t control
  • Replaying old conversations
  • Holding onto guilt or regret
  • Feeling overwhelmed by “everything”

Sis… that’s heavy.

Start small:
✨ Write down what’s been on your mind
✨ Identify what you can control—and release the rest
✨ Give yourself permission to not carry it all

Peace begins when we stop trying to hold everything together.

Create a Soft Morning Reset

How you start your day matters more than you think.

Instead of jumping straight into stress, try a softer approach:

  • Sip your coffee or tea in silence
  • Read something uplifting (even a scripture or affirmation)
  • Stretch your body gently
  • Take a few deep, intentional breaths
  • Set one clear intention for your day

It doesn’t have to be long.
It just has to be yours.

Protect Your Energy This Season

Spring is also about boundaries.

Yes, boundaries.

Because you cannot reset your mind while constantly pouring into everyone else.

Give yourself permission to:

  • Say no without guilt
  • Step away from draining conversations
  • Limit what you consume on social media
  • Choose peace over proving a point

Your energy is sacred. Treat it that way.

Feed Your Mind What It Needs

Just like your body needs nourishment, your mind does too.

This season, be intentional about what you take in:

🌿 Uplifting podcasts
🌿 Encouraging conversations
🌿 Books that inspire growth
🌿 Music that calms your spirit

What you consume daily shapes your mindset more than you realize.

Move Your Body, Clear Your Mind

One of the quickest ways to reset mentally?

Move.

A short walk.
A stretch.
Even dancing in your kitchen.

Movement releases stress, boosts your mood, and helps you think more clearly.

It’s not about intensity—it’s about consistency.

Give Yourself Grace

Let’s be real for a moment…

You are not behind.
You are not too late.
You are not stuck.

You are evolving.

Spring reminds us that growth doesn’t happen overnight.
It happens in layers, in quiet moments, in unseen ways.

So be patient with yourself.

Final Thought

Resetting your mind for spring isn’t about becoming a new person…

It’s about returning to a calmer, clearer, more grounded version of you.

A version that:

  • Chooses peace
  • Moves with intention
  • Protects her energy
  • And gives herself permission to grow

This is your fresh start, Trina.

Take it… softly

Let’s Talk

What’s one thing you’re choosing to release this spring?

Drop it below and let’s reset together

How Movement Brings Freedom

There comes a time in our lives when we realize…

Freedom isn’t just about where we can go.

It’s about how we feel inside our own bodies.

And for so many of us—especially as women over 50—our bodies have carried stories. Stories of strength, caregiving, stress, survival, and resilience. But somewhere along the way, we may have stopped moving freely.

Not because we didn’t want to…
But because life got heavy.

Movement Is More Than Exercise

Let’s shift the mindset real quick.

Movement is not punishment.
Movement is not about shrinking yourself.
Movement is not about chasing a number on a scale.

Movement is freedom in motion.

It’s the ability to:

  • Get up without stiffness
  • Walk without pain
  • Dance without hesitation
  • Stretch without fear
  • Live without limitation

That’s the kind of freedom we deserve.

Movement Releases What We’ve Been Holding

When we sit too long, stay still too often, or carry stress in our bodies, it shows up in ways we don’t always recognize:

  • Tight hips
  • Achy joints
  • Low energy
  • Brain fog
  • Water retention
  • Emotional heaviness

But the moment we begin to move—even gently—something shifts.

A short walk…
A stretch in the morning…
A few minutes on the treadmill…

It tells your body:
“We’re not stuck anymore.”

And that’s powerful.

Freedom Looks Different for Us Now

At this stage of life, movement should feel like support, not strain.

We’re not trying to prove anything.
We’re honoring our bodies.

Freedom might look like:

  • A peaceful morning walk with your coffee
  • Light strength training that builds confidence
  • Stretching while listening to your favorite music
  • Dancing in your living room (yes ma’am
  • Gentle yoga that calms your nervous system

This is about joyful movement, not exhausting routines.

Movement Supports Your Health in Real Ways

Let’s talk real-life benefits, because this matters for our wellness journey:

Movement helps:

  • Regulate blood sugar
  • Support heart health
  • Reduce water retention
  • Improve circulation
  • Ease joint stiffness
  • Boost mood and mental clarity
  • Improve sleep quality

And for those of us navigating menopause, high blood pressure, or diabetes…
movement becomes part of our healing toolkit.

Not optional. Essential.

Your Body Is Still Capable

Sis, hear me on this…

Your body is not “too old.”
It’s just asking to be cared for differently.

Every step you take…
Every stretch you make…
Every moment you choose to move…

You are reclaiming your freedom.

Not the freedom you had at 25—
but a deeper, wiser, more intentional freedom.

A Simple Way to Start Today

You don’t need a full routine. Just start here:

  • Set a timer every hour
  • Stand up and walk for 3–5 minutes
  • Stretch your arms, legs, and back
  • Take deep breaths
  • Drink your water

That’s it.

Small movements add up to powerful change.

Final Thought

Movement is not about becoming someone new.
It’s about returning to yourself.

Strong.
Capable.
Alive.
Free.

So today, we move—not because we have to…
but because we get to.

Let’s Talk

Sitting All Day? Here’s Why Your Body Is Holding Water (And How I Fixed It)

Let’s talk about something that doesn’t get enough attention… water retention from sitting too long.

If you’re working from home, chances are you’ve had those moments where your:

  • Ankles feel swollen
  • Legs feel heavy
  • Rings feel tighter than usual
  • Body just feels… puffy

And you’re thinking, “Wait… I’ve been eating right. What’s going on?”

Sis, it might not be your food—it might be your chair.

Why Sitting All Day Causes Water Retention

When we sit for long periods, especially at a desk, our circulation slows down. That means:

  • Blood flow in the lower body becomes sluggish
  • Fluids start to pool in your legs and feet
  • Your lymphatic system (your body’s natural detox system) isn’t moving like it should

Over time, that stillness can lead to swelling, bloating, and discomfort—especially for us over 50 when circulation naturally slows a bit.

What I Noticed in My Own Body

Working from home sounded like a dream… until I realized I was barely moving.

I started noticing:

  • My ankles looked swollen by the end of the day
  • My legs felt tight and tired
  • I just didn’t feel as light or energized

And that’s when I had to pause and ask myself:
“Am I moving enough throughout the day?”

The answer? No ma’am.

The Simple Habit That Changed Everything

I didn’t go extreme. I didn’t overhaul my whole life.

I did something simple—and it made a big difference:

I started setting a timer at the top of every hour.

Every single hour, I:

  • Stood up from my desk
  • Walked around my home for a few minutes
  • Stretched my legs, rolled my shoulders
  • Sometimes walked in place or did a quick lap

That’s it.

And let me tell you… my body felt the shift almost immediately.

Why This Works

This small habit helps:

  • Improve circulation
  • Prevent fluid buildup in your lower body
  • Activate your lymphatic system
  • Reduce that heavy, swollen feeling

It’s not about doing a full workout—it’s about reminding your body to keep moving.

Don’t Forget This Part: Hydration Matters

Now here’s the part that surprised a lot of people…

Drinking more water actually helps reduce water retention.

I know—it sounds backwards.

But when your body is dehydrated, it holds onto water as a survival response.

So I made it a priority to:

  • Keep water near my desk at all times
  • Sip consistently throughout the day
  • Avoid waiting until I’m thirsty

And yes… more bathroom trips
But also less bloating and puffiness.

Simple Ways to Combat Water Retention While Working From Home

If you’re sitting for long hours, here are a few gentle shifts you can start today:

- Set an hourly movement timer
-Take 3–5 minute walking breaks
-Stretch your legs, ankles, and feet
-Stay hydrated throughout the day
-Elevate your legs for a few minutes after work
-Wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing

This Is Your Reminder, Beautiful…

Your body is not meant to stay still all day.

Movement is not punishment—it’s support.
Hydration is not optional—it’s essential.

And sometimes, the smallest habits…
create the biggest shifts in how we feel.

Let’s Talk

Have you noticed swelling or heaviness from sitting too long?

What’s one small movement habit you can start today?

What Your Doctor Didn’t Tell You About Menopause

The truth every woman over 50 deserves to know

Let’s have a real conversation.

Because for so many of us, menopause didn’t come with a guidebook… it came with confusion, silence, and a whole lot of “Is this normal?”

And if you’re anything like me, you probably left your doctor’s office with more questions than answers.

So today, we’re talking about what should have been said—but often isn’t.

1. Menopause Is More Than Hot Flashes

Yes, hot flashes get all the attention—but sis, that’s just the surface.

What many doctors don’t fully explain is that menopause affects your entire body:

  • Brain fog (forgetting why you walked into a room
  • Mood swings and anxiety
  • Joint pain and stiffness
  • Weight gain—especially around the midsection
  • Sleep disruptions (waking up at 2–3 AM like clockwork)

This isn’t “just aging.”
This is a hormonal change—and it deserves real attention and support.

2. Your Mental Health Might Take a Hit (And That’s Real)

Nobody really prepares you for the emotional side of menopause.

One minute you’re fine… the next minute you’re overwhelmed, irritated, or just not feeling like yourself.

And here’s the truth:
*It’s not in your head.
*It’s hormonal shifts affecting your brain chemistry.

If you’ve felt anxious, low, or unlike yourself, you are not alone, and you are not broken.

3. Your Body Is Not Betraying You—It’s Transitioning

Let’s reframe this, because this part is important.

Your body isn’t “falling apart.”
It’s changing seasons.

But without the right tools, it can feel like everything is working against you:

  • You’re eating the same, but gaining weight
  • You’re exercising—but not seeing results
  • You’re tired—even after resting

What your doctor may not emphasize is that your body now needs a different strategy—not more punishment.

4. Nutrition Matters More Than Ever

This is a big one that doesn’t get enough attention.

During menopause, your body becomes more sensitive to:

  • Sugar
  • Processed foods
  • High-carb diets

And if you’re managing things like blood sugar, blood pressure, or cholesterol, this becomes even more important.

What helps:

  • High-protein meals to maintain muscle
  • Fiber-rich foods for digestion and heart health
  • Anti-inflammatory ingredients like turmeric, leafy greens, and berries

This is not about dieting—it’s about fueling your next chapter.

5. Strength Training Is No Longer Optional

Let’s talk about it.

After 50, we naturally start losing muscle mass—and that impacts everything from metabolism to balance.

But here’s the empowering part:
*You can rebuild strength at any age.

Incorporating:

  • Light weights
  • Resistance bands
  • Bodyweight exercises

…can help you feel stronger, more energized, and more in control of your body again.

6. Sleep Becomes Sacred

If your sleep has been off, you’re not imagining it.

Hormonal changes can disrupt your natural sleep cycle, making it harder to fall—and stay—asleep.

What your doctor might not say is how much sleep impacts:

  • Weight management
  • Mood
  • Blood sugar levels
  • Heart health

Creating a calming nighttime routine isn’t a luxury anymore—it’s a necessity.

7. You Have Options (More Than You Were Told)

Many women are only told, “This is just part of life.”

And while menopause is natural… suffering through it is not something you have to accept.

There are options:

  • Lifestyle changes
  • Holistic approaches
  • Hormone therapy (when appropriate)
  • Supplements (with guidance)

The key is finding what works for you.

8. You Are Still Her—Just Evolving

Let me say this clearly:

*You are not fading.
*You are not past your prime.
*You are stepping into a new level of wisdom, strength, and power.

Menopause is not the end of your story—it’s a redefinition.

And when we start talking about it openly, supporting each other, and advocating for our health…

That’s when everything shifts.
