Here are some helpful breathing techniques you can use to help you relax and manage stress:
- Diaphragmatic breathing: Sit or lie in a comfortable position. Place one hand on your chest and the other on your abdomen. Slowly inhale through your nose, feeling your abdomen rise and your chest stays relatively still. Exhale slowly through your mouth, feeling your abdomen fall.
- 4-7-8 breathing: Exhale completely through your mouth, then inhale through your nose for a count of 4. Hold your breath for a count of 7. Exhale completely through your mouth for a count of 8. Repeat this cycle 3-4 times.
- Progressive muscle relaxation: Start by tensing and relaxing the muscles in your feet and gradually move up your body to your neck and head. Tense each muscle group for 5-10 seconds, then relax them.
